Coach Liskey to Travel to Benin

Brothers:

Mike Liskey (1992) traveled to Benin in 2003 to coach basketball with a group of coaches from a Christian foundation.

He has the opportunity to return this summer to continue his service. He does not ask for donations per se, but he will gladly accept if you want to contribute.

Please see his note below!

Dear Friends,

I have an amazing opportunity to return as a missionary to Benin, Africa. Benin is located in Western Africa, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean, between Nigeria and Togo. As some of you know, I first landed in Benin in August of 2003. I haven’t been back for almost two years, but I have longed to return from the moment that I came back to the United States. My next trip is scheduled for August of 2005.

Coach John Block, a former NBA All-Star, will continue to lead our small group of Christian coaches. Again, we are being personally invited over by the president of the country. The purpose of our mission is to teach basketball and Christian principles to the members of the Benin National Team and other players being developed in their sports/basketball academy. We will continue to accomplish these goals by conducting basketball clinics and having group discussions about Christianity throughout the country.

On our last adventure two years ago, our mission field went well beyond the basketball court. By far the most valuable part of the trip was the relationships that were established between the coaches and the Benin nationals. I have enjoyed communicating with one of my Beninese friends, Michael, and hearing how he has grown in the Lord over the last two years. His faith has truly encouraged me. On this trip, I look forward to reconnecting and following up with many of the friendships that were developed two years ago.

I would like to request your support for this missionary trip. Please pray for safe travel, safety while in the country, cooperation amongst our team, and opportunities to share God’s word and His love with the Benin nationals.

Secondly, I need to raise $3,500 in order to fund the trip. If you can help, donations are tax-deductible. I know that we all have family and personal commitments, so naturally, I would greatly appreciate any donation – NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL. (I would need to receive gifts by June 24).
