This One Topps Them All!

Sean marries long-time girlfriend Miss April Phillips

OXNARD (Oct. 2, 2004) – Sean Topp learned the right and wrong lessons from fellow Upsilon sage Seth Bluman.

Sean selected the delightful Mandalay Bay Beach Resort, where Seth also had married the lovely former Miss Joanne Meyer in 1996. But Sean scheduled the wedding during the heat of the pennant race – October – as did Seth those glorious eight years ago.

Seth’s reception was delayed an hour while the Yankees finished off the Braves in Game 6 to win the title and the brothers downed shots of tequila to celebrate.

Sean’s wedding was not exactly delayed, but it began right in the bottom of the 9th with the Dodgers down 3-0 to the Giants. The brothers had to follow the game via Won Park’s omnipresence Sports Ticker Pager and get updates during the ceremony, culminating in Steve Finley’s division-winning grand slam!

There were 40 brothers and friends of Upsilon attending, equaling the record set at Ed Rhee’s wedding. Ed’s son, Alex, served as ring-bearer and also held Scott Good’s dip can during the ceremony.

Best man Mike Martin was eloquent in his toast, duplicating his feet at Paul Lee’s wedding several years yonder. However, Sean was couth enough to not mention — at least in public in front of the grandparents — how attracted he was to April’s cleavage when he first met her.

Comeback Player of the Year goes to Mike Alvarez. El Presidente was back to his rare form of Maloney’s buying drinks for everyone in site. He showed up on the dance floor with a tray of kamikazes. All that was missing was Bara getting fired for throwing an obnoxious drunk chick out of the bar!

Jackass of the Night goes to Gabor Fabian. He started chugging cans of Budweiser at noon on the ride up with Won Park and Jay Ross, added a few Margies at the pool, and was safely passed out by 8:00 p.m., just in time for dinner!

Kudos also go to all da Goods! Ma and Pa Good provided plenty of 30 packs of beer to keep Barney’s room rocking until 3:00 a.m.

The Upsilon brothers closed the night with a rousing rendition of the California Drinking Song while taking a big group picture on the staircase, drawing out patrons of the bar to see who were these jackasses making so much noise at midnight.

Other brothers attending were John Clark, Larry Furst, Jeff Bara, Adam Brockman, Shane Tseng, Jason Won, Stu Johnson, Brian Goldman, Chris Good.
