WESTWOOD – “Heading downtown” and “heading out of town” were the themes of the third “Seniors Dinner,” which UAA hosted on June 5 for the graduating seniors of the Upsilon active chapter.
This was “Dead Week,” the week before the last final exams of the year. But the crowd was lively, and several alumni attended to honor the newest alumni from the chapter. Sean Topp, Scott Mosier, Steve Kaplan, Brian Letourneau, Jay Ross, Alex Ooi, Josh Kamzan and Tom Miller all kindly donated funds to sponsor the graduating seniors’ dinner. Vern Joens and Joe Marsalek could not attend, but also were generous and donated to the dinners. (If you are interested in donating, we could use some more cash to cover the costs — please call me!).
Several graduates are going on the road, seeing the world before getting bogged down in jobs and real life: Former Sage Jon Roper is going to Australia to seek wine, women and work; Matt Hiser is traveling to Europe, Kyle Heckman is considering the waves of Hawaii, and John Sager will head to Russia in the Fall. Others are staying close to home, jumping right into the business world: Pete Vander Poel’s company loves his work in abandoned property, Mike Fine has a job in finance and Stephan Howsepian plans to work as a consultant.

The only downside to the evening was Tom Miller’s report on the status of the house structure, which continues to get battered each year. The house may require up to $50,000 in general repairs during the summer. The fraternity has a large membership, 90 brothers at the end of this year before losing 25 to graduation. So, the parties and a bit of hairball-ism take its toll on the structure. The UAA will seek your help to team up with the active Class of 2008 to fix things up!
