Brother Bastyr, an Army veteran in Europe during the Cold War, past Province Archon, and Past Housing Board Member, passed to the Adytum on High on Jan. 29 at age 87 in Lawrence, Kan. Bastyr attended North Hollywood H.S. and matriculated to UCLA, where he pledged the fraternity and earned his B.A. He also met his wife Beverly, who died in 1997.

Brother Alvarez speaks to Chapter
In between designing and launching satellites, Michael Alvarez (Y1993) visited Upsilon Manor as the Alumni Guest Speaker. He explained how to seek opportunity with start-ups, not necessarily take the big paycheck from the old-school companies. His new FireSat combs the earth in 10×10 meter grids to seek out hotspots and help firefighters quickly extinguish fires before they engulf swaths of land.
Brother Tulsyan marries in India
Past 2nd Counselor Kanishk Tulsyan was married in Juipar with several Upsilon brothers making the long road trip: Robbie Mack, Josh Skifstrom, Mitch Howard, Mitch Huynh, Frank Solis and Evan Hou.
Brother Guilford and Maury Wills
Judge Andrew Guilford has been promoting Hall of Fame selection for the great Dodger shortstop Maury Wills, one of the best base stealers of all-time. Guilford attended Dodger Stadium’s Opening Day in 1962 and works with Wills to mentor at-risk youths. The L.A. Brother Capps involved in San Bernardino shootout
Sgt. Andy Capps of the Redlands Police Dept. (Upsilon ’88) chased down the two terrorists who attacked the Arrowhead Regional Center in San Bernardino in December. He was on patrol and came upon their vehicle, and he took position and bravely fired at the terrorists. The law enforcement team killed the two terrorists and ended the threat.

OMC 69th Holiday Brunch
The Old Men’s Club gathered again for its annual holiday party, led by Bob “Santa Claus” Baker and Richard “Communication Director” Peters. The grand old gentlemen have met up every year since WWII ended. Other brothers included Robert Jones, Ken Ingman, Paul Finwall and Robert Eggert.
